Research Experience
My research focuses on the optimization of the regeneration and transformation efficiency of chili pepper to be used in the transient and stable transformation of CRISPR/Cas9. Genome editing using CRISPR/Cas9 is a strategy for developing plant resistance against virus in chili pepper. On the other hand, chili pepper is a recalcitrant and genotype dependent plant which is very difficult to regenerate and transform. I optimized the combination of growth regulators to induce callus and shoots in chili pepper. Before performing stable transformation using CRISPR/Cas9, I optimized transient transformations using the GUS and GFP reporter genes to obtain the most efficient transformation method. Plant transformation mediated by Agrobacterium tumefaciens. The results of optimization of regeneration and transformation were used to develop Begomovirus resistant chili pepper through CRISPR/Cas9.
Skills
Plant tissue culture, plant genetic transformation, DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, gel-electrophoresis, bacterial cell culture, GUS histochemical assay, GFP visualization, confocal microscope, basic bioinformatics.
Testimonial
The reason I chose Biotechnology ITB is because I want to study in the development and regulation of GMOs and I got it while studying and doing research at Biotechnology ITB. Biotechnology ITB is the best campus in Indonesia to study molecular genetics with professional lecturers and complete facilities. During my time at ITB, I got new insights about Agricultural Biotechnology and gained international experience such as joining the Graduate School of Agriculture – Kyoto University (GSA-KU) Winter Exchange (online). I am grateful for the opportunity to complete my master’s degree in Biotechnology ITB which has prepared me to enter my next career.
