Research Experience

The research I did during my study in Institut Teknologi Bandung’s biotechnology major was focused on protein engineering, particularly enzymes. I designed, expressed, and researched about engineered reverse transcriptase enzymes for use in research and diagnostic kit development. The engineered reverse transcriptase was designed as a fusion protein with archaeal protein with the intend to improve its processivity and resistance to inhibitors. During my time, we, as a team, succeeded in proving that our engineered reverse transcriptase indeed has the intended bioactivity. Further researches are needed before the engineered reverse transcriptase could be commercialized.

Bacterial cloning routines (transformation, culturing, PCR, electrophoresis, cloning analysis), protein expression routines (induced protein expression, sonication, SDS-PAGE, small-scale protein chromatography purification, protein concentration, dialysis), q-PCR routines (RNA-handling techniques, q-PCR analysis), basic microbial analysis (aseptic work, bacterial and fungal culturing and analysis), bioinformatics software related to protein design (sequence alignment, plasmid-primer design, 3D protein modelling, molecular docking, protein design analysis)
