Research Experience
My research focuses on the optimization and purification of recombinant protein production using E. coli as a host for COVID-19 therapy. The recombinant protein I produce is an ACE2-like enzyme called KEX1, which is encoded by the kex1 gene from Kluyveromyces marxianus. This enzyme is being developed with the hope of having the same therapeutic effect as rhACE2, but using the E. coli BL21 (DE3) expression system, which requires less time and lower costs. I performed the transformation of a plasmid containing the ACE2-like enzyme into E. coli, optimized the culture conditions for producing the ACE2-like enzyme, purified the enzyme (including protein refolding since it is insoluble), and demonstrated that the ACE2-like enzyme has a therapeutic effect for COVID-19.
Skills
SDS-PAGE, Transformation, PCR, Western Blotting, Aseptic technique, Cell culture, Protein Purification, Protein Refolding, ELISA
Testimonial
It has been a wonderful experience studying in the Biotechnology program. I have learned many new things and successfully deepened my knowledge in the fields of medical biotechnology and molecular genetics. Additionally, the program has prepared us with relevant knowledge applicable to the industry. I would like to thank my supervisor, lecturers, and staff for their support throughout my studies.
