Research Experience
My research on aquaculture focused on the implementation of red seaweed prebiotic feed to increase the growth and disease resistance of white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei). I used variations of seaweed prebiotic as feed supplement for the shrimp, which was then subjected to a challenge test with pathogenic Vibrio harveyi.. I analysed the growth parameters of the shrimp, as well as the expression of several immune-related genes expression from the shrimps using quantitative PCR to understood the mode of action of the seaweed prebiotics. Using the overall data, I determined the best variation of seaweed supplements.
Besides my focus, I also gain many experiences by actively contributing as a research assistant in some researches conducted by Microbial Biotechnology Research Group in Aquaculture and Aquatic Ecology lab, such as development of polyurethane biofilter and identification of pathogenic Vibrio species.
