Research Experience

My research focuses on air microbiology to identify bacteria and virus, especially SARS-CoV-2, in air ambient from many places in Bandung and Jakarta using active sampling method. I improved the sampling method and sampling devices to obtain an optimum size of samples. Moreover, I characterized the community structure by running culture-dependent and culture-independent (metagenomics) analysis using bioinformatics tools to determine the dominant bacteria and pathogenic bacteria from the samples. And finally, using the result to build recommendation for air quality measurement based on microbial (bacteria and virus) presence. I also apply the sampling method in analysing the effectiveness of some air filtration device prototype that made by some of ITB’s Faculty.

Besides my focus, I also gain many experiences by actively contributing as a research assistant in some researches conducted by Microbial Biotechnology Research Group such as food fermentation, primary and secondary metabolite production, metabolomics, microbial biosystematics, and microbial ecology.

Microbiology Testing and Analysis (Isolation, Cultivation, Identification, Enumeration, Good Laboratory Practices), Molecular microbiology (DNA/RNA Extraction, PCR, Gel-Electrophoresis, gene cloning, quantitative PCR), bioprocess and fermentation, microbial metabolites extraction, Freeze-drying, UV-Vis Spectrophotometry, statistical analysis, and basic bioinformatics software.

Testimonial

Biotechnology master’s program is a great place to enhance my academic and interpersonal skills. Even going through ups and downs, the supervisors in my research really give me almost all supports that I need. The faculty and department provide me a chance to learn beyond the classroom boundary. The lecturers are very supportive and stimulate student’s personal growth. Students are offered interesting scholarship facilities and guided to prestigious internship or exchange programs. Overall, my time in Biotechnology ITB has been spectacular.
